Makarfi farmers struggled with dry-season irrigation due to the high cost of pumping water with petrol engines. At home, they relied on candles and small generators that often failed. Ruwa deployed 18 solar hybrid irrigation units that now pump water directly to their vegetable farms during the day and provide household lighting + fan power at night from the same system.
