Location: Bama, Borno
Project Type: Solar Irrigation + Basic Household Power
Beneficiaries: 22 smallholder farmers
Completion: October 2025
Farmers in Bama rely heavily on dry-season cultivation to survive, but fuel scarcity made water pumping expensive and inconsistent. Ruwa deployed 22 solar irrigation units, each serving one family farm while also providing night-time electricity for lighting and small appliances.
Impact:
-
Farmers now irrigate 2× more frequently without spending on diesel
-
Households now have steady lighting, reducing reliance on lanterns
-
Women can now process crops at night with light available
-
Monthly fuel savings average ₦14,000 per farmer
With reliable irrigation and electricity, Bama farmers are planning to expand into onion and cabbage production next season.
